Let's head down to Pinnacles National Park for an amazing 5.3-mile loop! We'll be tackling the Condor Gulch to High Peaks Trail (approx. 1,300 ft elevation gain). This hike is absolutely spectacular, featuring iconic rock formations, potential California Condor sightings, and some thrilling, narrow ridge sections with handrails built right into the stone.

Carpool Meetup Spot: McDonalds, 105 Bernal Rd, San Jose, CA 95119

The Plan & Schedule:

  • 6:00 AM - Carpool & Coffee: We are meeting at McDonald's at 105 Bernal Rd, San Jose, CA 95119. We'll grab breakfast, caffeinate, and condense cars. Please be on time so we can roll out by 6:20 AM!
  • 7:30 AM - Trailhead Arrival: We will arrive at the Bear Gulch Day Use Area and start the hike. Parking fills up very fast, so keeping to this timeline is essential.
  • Route: We'll likely do the loop counterclockwise. This lets us catch the early morning light on the peaks and get the major elevation out of the way before it gets hot.
  • Pace: Moderate and social. We leave no one behind! We'll take breaks to catch our breath, grab snacks, and scan the sky for condors.

What to Bring:

  • Water: At least 2 to 3 liters. There is very little shade on the upper sections!
  • Footwear: Sturdy hiking boots or trail runners with good grip. The narrow, carved steps on the High Peaks section require sure footing.
  • Layers: It can be quite chilly in the morning but will heat up quickly as we climb.
  • Snacks/Lunch: We'll find a nice spot near the top to sit down, hang out, and eat together.
  • Extras: Sunscreen, a hat, and binoculars if you want a closer look at the wildlife!

Difficulty Note: This trail is rated as moderate to difficult. While the distance isn't extreme, the elevation gain is noticeable, and the steep, narrow sections near the summit aren't recommended if you have a severe fear of heights. We will navigate these technical spots together as a team!
