Walk Description: Have you ever seen a prairie with very few weeds and loaded with prairie wildflowers? A prairie with virtually no hairy cat’s ears, ox-eye daisy, invasive annuals, English plantain, bentgrass, St. John’s wort or Scot’s broom? Now’s your chance! Rod Gilbert will lead a walk to one of the most beautiful prairies that remain in South Puget Sound that has been under restoration for about 15 years. The 40 acre restoration area has a weedy component of only 5-10 % primarily consisting of two rhizomatous species: creeping red fescue and sheep sorrel. He will talk about prairie restoration and some of the challenges that come with it.
Any special requirements: Walkers must pre-register with Cyndy Dillon, who will send a link to a mandatory liability waiver when you provide your email address. For the walk you will need to email the liability waiver to Cyndy or bring it to the hike. Bring water if you need it, dress for the weather and wear good hiking shoes. Restrooms may not be available.
Drivers will need a valid state driver's license (and need to be a US citizen) and proof of insurance. There will be some short travel along some 2-track roads, it’s a little bumpy but it’s OK for regular cars.
