Summer Nature Walk / Hike & Autumn olive berries

Details

Summer Leisurely Nature walk Hike - one & half to two & half miles - slow, easy, hike/walk mostly on an old dirt/gravel road through Little Bennett Park in Clarksburg, MD (upper Montgomery County about 3 miles off of Rte 270). Taste & forage Autumn olive berries; smell the Mountain Mint, Spice Bush, Mugwort, maybe Wild Ginger.
Important - The walk leader is severely allergic / chemically sensitive to fragrances, petrochemicals, etc., do not wear perfumes/colognes, scented sunscreen, or other scented personal care products; or use any bug spray or sunscreen.
Pace - naturalist shuffle to normal walking pace.
There is the option to leave the walk early if necessary. Approx time 2 1/2 hrs. depending on how much time we spend picking berries, how much discussions, and how hot it may get.
Children (w/ their parents) are welcome as long as they are old enough to do the walk/hike.
There are no facilities / restrooms at this location..
A wide-brim hat is helpful for both sun & any problems with gnats/flies. Optional: field guides, camera.

Location: Little Bennett Park in Clarksburg - (Note: our meeting place is NOT the main part of the Park (please follow the directions below)).
Off of Route 270, Exit 18 Clarksburg/Bodys exit (Route 121) - coming off the exit ramp head to Clarksburg, this puts you onto Stringtown Road.
Go to the 2nd traffic light and turn left onto Rte 355 (north).
Go to first traffic light and turn right onto Clarksburg Road (Route 121).
Continue on Clarksburg Road for about two miles.
At the bottom of a big dip, just past the small cement bridge, on the right is a small parking area - the Kinsley parking area - where we should meet (note this the third parking area off of Clarksburg Rd, the first is on the right, second on the left, and our meeting parking area is the third which is also on the right).
(Again, ignore the road signs to the park, we are NOT meeting at the main park entrance area on Rte. 355).
Inclement weather - the walk will be cancelled in the event of rain/inclement weather, notice of cancellation will be sent to those who RSVP’d and posted on the Meetup group site by 7:00 am the day of the walk..
