Three years ago on this date (April 22nd),
I ran the very first Adult Recess event on Meetup.
AR was born out of my own longing for play, movement, and community.
I quickly found out that others in Austin were looking for these things as well!Over the years of leading adults in playful outdoor activities,
one thing has become very clear:
✨play brings out our most authentic selves.🌟When we play, we let our guards down. We take our masks off.
We're no longer analyzing what to say or obsessing over how we're being perceived by others.
We effortlessly relax into our authenticity-
just as we did when we were children!The idea behind Deep Play events is to harness the authentic energy created through play
and use it as a catalyst for connection.What to Expect:
Expect a fun, facilitated experience centered around playful connection.
There will be games, laughter, movement, and silliness-
but there will also be space for meaningful conversation, reflection, and moments of being truly seen.You’ll leave feeling energized, nourished, and more connected.
To yourself, to community, and to new or deepening friendships.What to Bring:
Your curiosity. Your courage. Your authenticity. Your openness. Your ability to listen. Your willingness to be seen.While we will not explicitly request for you to bring your fear, anxiety, shame, or not enoughness-
those feelings are all very welcome in this space!

Three years ago (April 22, 2023), I hosted the very first Adult Recess event on Meetup…
It was born out of my own craving for play, movement, and real human connection-
and it turns out, a lot of people in Austin were craving that too.What started as a few casual games of dodgeball and tag has grown into something so much bigger.
A community.
A place that feels like home.
A group of people who show up-
whether it’s every week or just every now and then-
and make this whole thing what it is.And truly, it wouldn’t exist without YOU!
So this week, we celebrate 🎉
We’ll kick things off with some warm-up games, then revisit the two games that started it all at that very first recess (foxtails & ultimate ball). After that, we’ll come together to absolutely destroy a celebratory piñata (yes, you get to keep whatever falls out), and wrap it all up with a well-earned pizza party.🍕
This event is open to everyone —
whether you’ve been around since day one or you’re thinking about joining for the first time…
(there will be pizza, just saying 😜)Come play, meet some awesome humans, and be part of something really special 💛
What to expect at an AR event:
- Brief introductions and warm-up games to loosen up.
- Movement-oriented, childhood-inspired games with unique twists!
- A facilitated event structure. No dull time wondering what to do with yourself!
- Social time post-recess for making connections.
- We play for FUN not for SPORT!
- A vibrant community of silly weirdos from diverse backgrounds.
- After your first event, get added to our community Whatsapp chat to stay connected with the crew. We regularly schedule game nights, casual hangouts, paddleboarding, dancing, men's group, women's group, and much more throughout the week!
- FREE PIZZA and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided! (you are welcome to bring snacks, drinks, or desserts to share, but this is not required!)First time? Try it out for $7.77!!!

Games will start promptly at 11:10; please arrive ON TIME! Late arrivals will not be allowed to join the group.
If you are later than 10 minutes, you may still join us at 12:30 in time for the pinata and pizza!Come for the games, but stay for the community.
