Cahokia Mounds & Mexican Food!
Details
Hello my good people!
Join us on Saturday, Dec. 6th at 10:00 AM for a special hike at Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, once the center of a thriving Indigenous city along the Mississippi River. Nearly a thousand years ago, Cahokia was as large as New York or Philadelphia in their early days, home to more than ten thousand people.
We’ll explore a portion of this sacred landscape together, walking about 3–5 miles at a relaxed pace. Along the way we’ll have a poetry reading, a meditation, and communion on the trails. We’ll finish by climbing Monks Mound, the massive earthen pyramid that rises 100 feet above the plains.
Afterwards, anyone who wishes is welcome to gather at a nearby Mexican restaurant for fellowship.
Don’t be discouraged if you don’t see many RSVPs—we have folks joining from outside Meetup as well!
What to bring:
- Water
- Snacks for yourself
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Recommended attire: long pants and long sleeves
Hosted by: Pastor Eli & Professor Scott
We hike twice a month, and all plans are weather-dependent. Be sure to sign up so you’ll receive any updates or changes!
