October: Group Picnic & Food Safari - All Ages
Here’s a gentle invitation to try a Food Safari, where food is the center study of your nature journal.
Vasona Lake is a huge park, and nature journalers can stay together to share a brunch picnic. When you RSVP, you will receive a list of possible items to bring, some of which will be supplied to ensure the group has a balanced meal to enjoy (and interesting things to draw as well).
We will meet near the Youth Science Institute and the Vasona Lake Pier Parking Lot. We’ll stay for about 15 minutes near the parking lot to find one another. Then, the group will take a short walk to explore the park, before we settle into a decent spot for our picnic.

- Introductions and intentions
- Mindfulness and sketching warm-up
- Break off for exploring
- Sketchbook shares and closing
Come as you are — no experience needed, just a sense of wonder. We can’t wait to explore with you!
Event Details at a Glance
🕐 Date & Time: Sunday, October 11, 2026, 9:30 to 1 pm
📍 Location: Vasona Lake Park: Meet near the Boat Parking and the Youth Science Institute
🚙 Parking: We are meeting a bit earlier than usual, as parking can sometimes be a challenge in this place. There is a $6 fee for in-park parking.
🧥Comfort: Bring layers, water bottle and sun screen. We may not find too much shade in this area, so please bring a hat.
🖊️ What to Bring: Be sure to bring a filled water bottle and something to sit on. I will provide a couple of picnic blankets for our group.
🧻 Restrooms: There are restrooms at the park, but sometimes it is a bit of a walk
💰Cost: $10 to $20 is suggested to Wild Wonder, and a Venmo for this will be provided. This will be used to sustain future nature journaling events.
