Nature Nerds Explore Brinton Brook Sanctuary

Rescheduling this outing to another date since it seems many people were away during Labor Day.

We will explore this special Audubon designated sanctuary right here here in Westchester - the Brinton Brook Sanctuary. This diverse landscape has some old growth trees and plenty of snags, making it a great habitat for Pileated Woodpeckers. I heard them last time I visited and hope we can spot one together, in addition to some fall migrants that will be around.

This one will have a heavy focus on birds, so be sure to bring your binoculars. They are not necessary, but will make this walk much more enjoyable. We will also make time for insects and amphibians as we see them, fungi and plants.

We will meet in the parking lot of the Foodtown in Croton and will carpool to Brinton Brook Sanctuary together. Their parking lot is small and we want to allow for others to get access to the site in addition to our group.

When you register, please let me know if you're open to having some folks ride with you to the sanctuary and back. It's a 3 minute ride.

Please consider a 3 to 5 donation to attend this event. Funds will be used to cover Meetup costs and for purchasing additional equipment such as binoculars to lend out to participants.

Children accompanied by a participating adult are welcome!Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed. Our goal is to observe wildlife, and pets can unintentionally disturb or scare away many of the animals we're hoping to see.

Whether you're an experienced naturalist or simply curious about the world around you, all are welcome! We’ll move at a relaxed pace and learn from whatever nature has to offer.
