New Brighton Park Biodiversity Enhancement Work Party

Details

Come and help out at the New Brighton Park, Nature Vancouver led biodiversity enhancement project.
The work party starts at 10 am sharp and will go to 12 Noon. We will focus on pulling vetch, white-sweet clover, scotch broom, digging out thistle and clipping blackberry. The work is enjoyable - as vigorous as you want - plus you get to work with a great group of people. A perfect tonic for the weekend!

MOST IMPORTANT - ignore Google Maps for directions to find where we work - it will send you to the wrong location! Instead, look at direction instructions at bottom.

Please come a few minutes early to sign in so we can get going as smoothly as possible. In terms of gear, I would just say wear your old work clothes which you don’t mind getting grubby. As is appropriate, be sure to bring warm clothes and rain gear.

Don’t worry about gloves or tools unless you have your personal favourites - we are quite well stocked with appropriate equipment.

We highly recommend you bring a water bottle to sip on during the work party. Also, be sure to have a good sun hat and put on lots of sun protection -- or rain gear as the weather dictates.

Finally we do require you to sign a liability release (which our insurance company requires). 2 Points: First, we do care very much about working safely and stress it. Second, in all our field trips or work parties we have never had a serious accident.

ps Just in case you are not familiar to the west side of New Brighton, the easiest access is from McGill Street on to Commissioner Street overpass to the PORT whether you are coming from Vancouver or just coming off the 2nd Narrows Bridge. You turn to the north (probably following a truck(s), go over the overpass over the CP tracks. then just before getting to the fenced Port area, turn sharp left and immediately take the first left into the little parking lot.
