How are coastal waterbirds doing in British Columbia? Join us as we explore what we’ve learned from the BC Coastal Waterbird Survey, a long-running volunteer program coordinated by Birds Canada. Together, we’ll look at how waterbird populations have changed over the past 25 years, what patterns are emerging across different regions, and which species and places may need extra conservation attention. We’ll also share how this program builds international connections and supports meaningful conservation work. Everyone is welcome!

Speaker Profile:
Rémi Torrenta is the British Columbia Projects Coordinator at Birds Canada. Originally from southern France, he completed his PhD at the Université de Moncton in New Brunswick. Rémi has spent the past 15 years working in avian research across both the East and West Coasts of Canada.
Rémi currently manages and oversees more than a dozen programs, including Birds Canada’s Citizen Science initiatives in British Columbia, Species-at-Risk monitoring, Urban Birds programming, outreach and education projects, and Indigenous engagement efforts. Rémi believes that meaningful conservation is best achieved through a combination of rigorous research, community-driven citizen science, and accessible scientific outreach.
