The Christmas Bird Count is the world’s longest running Citizen Science Project. The goal of the count is to have fun and learn about birds. As a bonus, the data collected helps scientists and others to track changes in bird populations across North America and around the world.

The 2025 White Rock – Surrey – Langley Christmas Bird Count will take place from dawn to dusk on December 27th. To sign up to participate, please email cbcwhiterock@gmail.com. Birders at all levels of ability are welcome to join the count:

  • Field Counters travel and cover a portion of the Count Circle on their own or in a small party, counting all birds they find.
  • Feeder Counters record all the birds visiting their feeders or yard from a stationary position.

More eyes are generally better and beginner field counters can help find birds for experts to identify, or can act as a scribe for a more experienced birder.

Email the count coordinator at cbcwhiterock@gmail.com to sign up or ask questions.
