Arundel to Amberley Circular Hike

Details
This beautiful trail will take you from Arundel, past Arundel Castle and the Wetland nature reserve,
then through woods and hills of the South Downs, to Arundel, then returning via a route which takes you along the river Arun and back to the start.
The route has a few climbs and descents including a long climb over the South Downs ridge and almost all the paths can be muddy and in the wetter months. The South Downs are often thick with chalky clay which gets particularly slippery when wet, so good boots are a must. You will need to negotiate several sets of steps, kissing gates and 12 stiles (all of which have open fence surrounds.
There are a couple of stretches along quiet roads and you will also need to cross the railway at an unsignaled crossing, so take particular care at these points. You will be sharing several of the meadows and fields with both cattle and sheep.
The route passes a number of pubs, including one on the banks of the river Arun towards the end of
the trail, which makes a great place to stop to relax and refuel after a good long hike.
