Welcome nature enthusiasts! Nature Nexus Institute offers fun outdoor activities for families and individuals - all are welcome! Join us on monthly nature hikes, habitat restoration events, library workshops, art & science activities all centered around exploring nature in LA. Locations include the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, Ballona Wetlands, Kenneth Hahn Recreation Area, Dockweiler Beach and more. We seek to provide equitable and intergenerational entry points to cultivating healthy community-nature relationships.

We’ll be doing some hands-on activities, a nature stroll, and s'mores around the campfire. Family friendly!

Botany & Traditional Ecological Knowledge Guided Walk
Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, 6300 Hetzler Rd, Culver City, CA, USNNI is thrilled to collaborate with biologist Matthew Teutimez from the Laboratory for Indigenous Knowledge Systems for this botany walk. Learn about the resilient plant species native to our region and the importance of Traditional Ecological Knowledge in land stewardship. After the botany walk, we’ll do some drawing with walnut ink and charcoal sticks made from native and non-native plants.
- Participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
- Please wear comfortable walking shoes. We will be walking on paved and unpaved surfaces.
- We meet in the very top parking lot at Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, but we will be walking throughout the park.
- Notebooks and sketchbooks encouraged!
