MT TARANAKI - SHARK'S TOOTH
Mt Egmont Visitor Centre, 2679 Egmont Road, Taranaki, NZWELCOME EVERYONE
Join us for a new adventure, scrambling up to the Shark's Tooth, the second-highest peak of Mt Taranaki. 1500m vertical ascent from the carpark. Must have climbed Mt Taranaki the usual way. Must wear helmet. Must be okay with the steepness and with heights.

The camphouse has a kitchen with stoves, microwaves, plates, bowls, cutlery, running water,
hot showers,
electricity.
flushing toilets.
Bring a sleeping bag, ear plugs (for snorers), a towel if you'd like to shower, and a rubbish bag.
HUT ETIQUETTE
Respect sleepers.
Tidy up before you leave.

SATURDAY 7TH FEBRUARY
10:00am Begin 5 hours drive to Mt Egmont Visitor Centre, 2679 Egmont Road.
Get passcode in booking email.
Collect key from below the Visitor Centre (use the passcode).
Park in the carpark below The Camphouse.
Get everything ready today.
Make tomorrow morning very easy.
Sleep @ The Camphouse.
SUNDAY 8TH FEBRUARY
5:00am Start driving 45 minutes to Stratford Plateau Carpark.
5:45am Arrive at Stratford Plateau Carpark.
Begin walk.
6:42am Sunrise.
A lot of it requires scrambling, climbing with hands.
Some sections are steep.
Could take 12 hours.
Return to Stratford Plateau Carpark via Tahurangi Lodge.
8:42pm Sunset.
Drive 5 hours to Auckland.
GEAR - GENERAL
Helmet (mountaineering helmet, or bike helmet).
Backpack which can easily hold everything.
Pack liner or rubbish sack (to waterproof gear).
Emergency shelter.
Food.
Water.
Headlight.
NO HELMET?
No climb.

Hiking shoes.
Thermal socks (e.g. wool).
Warm-when-wet breathable layers (e.g. merino long johns, merino shirt, merino jumper, puffy synthetic-filled jacket).
Rain jacket.
Rain poncho.
No cotton.

Warm gloves.

WEATHER
We need safe weather with low wind for this event. If weather is not suitable, the route may be changed to the usual "north" summit route, or the south route.
