NTHE Consciousness Gym - Presence & Awareness Practice for Beginners
Details
New experimental Monday night consciousness gym practice for people looking to know themselves more deeply.
During this weekly March meetup, we focus on bringing our presence and awareness to navigate our in-the-moment experience of being our human selves together in a group.
Recommendation
This experimental group is for best suited for introverts and/or those who already have a self-reflective internal experience practice such as journaling, therapy, meditation, walking in nature without tech, for at least one month.
How We Interact
We are all participants focused on having a meaningful personal and shared human experience. During this experience, the facilitator will set the opening context and introductory exercises may be included to orient us to the practice of coming into the present moment and being with one another as we become more aware of the experience we are having right then.
We listen for what is being spoken below our own words and name that in the group. We may at times also reflect back to one another how we heard what they shared, in a spirit of respect and collaboration in knowing ourselves more deeply as a result of interacting.
This could be described as a meditative practice you are doing internally yet also talking about with a group of other people doing the same internal meditation. So, meditating on yourself in a group rather than alone.
Imagine answering questions like: What is happening now, right now? Such as while reading this - are you feeling anxious and wondering whether this practice is for you, or excited to try this out and see what happens - or maybe both, or something else?
This event is for you if you are:
- Actively doing meditation or internal reflection practice such as journaling, therapy, a deep thinker, walk in nature without tech just to be with yourself, etc.
- Looking for more depth in knowing yourself
- Willing and able to practice listening carefully to your internal experience and name what you notice, rather than discuss about topics at a chit-chat every day social level
- Able and interested to engage in self-reflection and respectful communication without arguing and defending
- Able and willing to hear and receive different perspectives and experiences even when they are different from your beliefs and values
- Able and wiling to be on camera on Zoom
Participant Experience
Participants often leave the meetup feeling seen, heard, and understood at a surprising level. However, each experience is different and there are no guarantees on how you will feel. This is because the experience is co-created with whomever is in the group and in what happens amongst us as well inside us. Sometimes being seen in new ways can spark sensitivities in us that we didn't expect.
Participant Responsibility
All participants are responsible for their own personal experience and to share themselves in a way that is respectful both to self and others. Be prepared to practice noticing your experience happening internally and to name that out loud to the group. Nothing needs to be prepared in advance, and the facilitator will set the context and lead the group. Neither arguing, defensive bullying, or aggressive communication are appropriate and could result in being removed from the group.
Group Atmosphere
The atmosphere of the group is intended to be compassionate as we together navigate the human experience that comes up within us in real time during the group.
