What is your native language?

English

Do you speak any other language(s) fluently? If so, which?

I'm almost fluent in Spanish and am a native English speaker. I also took four (Mandarin) Chinese classes, two Japanese classes, a five-day French class, and a few private Korean lessons. I want to improve these and also learn Russian, Korean, and maybe Vietnamese.

What language(s) are you learning, and what is your current level of proficiency in each?

Spanish: advanced (fluent minus a few common and many technical words) Chinese: high beginning or low intermediate Japanese: low or high beginning French: absolute beginner Korean: absolute beginner

If you could share one tip for someone learning a new language, what would it be?

Get to know native speakers that you can practice with. Learn because you want to, not for a grade or a requirement. Immerse yourself as much as you can; watch TV, listen to the radio, read the news, and change device languages to Spanish.

What Roger is saying about this Meetup Group

This is the only language-based meetup in the area that I know of that's this active. Brian is a great organizer because he is skilled at leading discussions and moving people in groups.
