Chatham County environmentalist John Wagner will present the award-winning documentary "Burned: Are Trees the New Coal?" (https://burnedthemovie.com/). The film examines the wood pellet industry, which transforms wood into pellets that can be burned to generate electricity.

It sounds so good: using renewable biomass instead of fossil fuels to turn on the lights. But is it? The video examines forest selection and the energy balance to see whether this industry, which is operating right now in eastern North Carolina, actually reduces greenhouse gas emissions and global warning.
