What we’re about
The goal of this group is to fight against the poll-predicted conservative victory in the 2025 federal election, and a possible conservative victory in the next Ontario provinicial election. Whether you are a member of the NDP, Liberals, or Greens, members of these parties share more in common with each other in fundamental policy decisions (in particular when it comes to social welfare, and having a clean environment), compared to the conservatives (and conservative adjacent parties).
I’m planning on organizing online (and in-person) meetups so that we can come together to discuss ideas and concrete steps toward a good outcome in the 2025 federal election (i.e. towards ensuring that the conservatives do not win, and that parties that share our core values — whether NDP, Liberal, or Green — win a majority of seats in Parliament).
I think our largest push should be towards some form of electoral reform. Even based on current polling, electoral reform would ensure that conservatives cannot win in 2025. One thing we can do towards this is to petition all of our NDP and Liberal MPs to pass a bill introducing ranked choice voting ASAP, that goes into effect before the 2025 election. The combined Liberal + NDP votes in Parliament right now is sufficient to pass such an electoral reform bill. We need to convince our MPs to just do it, without delay or hesitation. For example, in the most recent Toronto—St. Paul's federal election, the Conservatives got 42.11% of the vote, the Liberals got 40.40%, the NDP got 11.02%, and the Greens got 2.86%. Even in this election, the combined Liberal+NDP and even Liberal+Green votes exceeded the Conservative votes. This emphasizes that we need electoral reform far more than ever. We need to fight for it.
