Applied AI and Innovation: How Boys Town advances its mission using modern tech
Details
Hi Everyone, Boys Town will be presenting our next event on Tuesday, March 24th! They will be sharing about their AI advances across behavioral training, audiology, and Crisis Support. Come see how AI is driving real change at an amazing organization!
About:
Boys Town is a national nonprofit with global impact dedicated to improving the lives of children, families, and communities by translating evidence‑based research into scalable, real‑world services. Our work spans youth care service, healthcare (including medical, behavioral and mental health), education, and crisis care, with a growing focus on using data, analytics, and AI to improve quality of care and access.
What to expect:
Reality Coach: Applying AI to Behavioral Skills Practice. Presented by Maurice Bailey (AI Engineer) and David Burget (Product Manager, Instructional Designer).
Reality Coach is an AI‑driven virtual role‑play platform designed to help educators and caregivers practice evidence‑based behavior interventions in realistic scenarios. Using structured scenarios and instant feedback, the system allows users to rehearse difficult interactions safely and consistently, helping scale behavioral training without the constraints of live coaching or in‑person simulations. Predictive Audiology Modeling. Presented by Ryan McCreery (Head of Research).
This project, funded through an AWS IMAGINE “Go Further, Faster” Grant , uses audiology data and generative AI to model pediatric ear‑canal growth and acoustics over time. The goal is to reduce the need for frequent, costly ear impressions by predicting changes digitally, improving access to high‑quality hearing aid fittings for children in US. Local news story: Boys Town researchers receive grant to start using AI to fit children’s hearing aids
AI‑Powered QA Engine for the 988 Crisis Hotline. Presented by Oscar Gonzalez (Director for National Hotline).
Boys Town has built an AI‑enabled quality assurance engine on AWS in partnership with ASU to support the national 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. The platform analyzes large volumes of operational and clinical interaction data to enable consistent QA, real‑time insights, and compliance‑aligned reporting while maintaining strict privacy and security controls. The system is designed to scale across crisis centers and support continuous improvement in life‑critical services.
