Finding Peace in a Frantic World
Mindfulness has been applied in the scientific fields as well as in the spiritual. Here is an opportunity to explore its applications within both aspects. On closer examination there is not a dichotomy; merely different levels, presentations and labels, with a common intention; to alleviate suffering and bring about the causes of happiness. This taster session will offer an overview of how mindfulness has been applied in the psychological fields to benefit countless beings across a wide range of spectrum. The taster goes on to offer a glimpse into the deeper aspects of mindfulness which is at the root of and foundation of a meaningful way of life.
Mind Your Life
This taster workshop is for anyone who would like to pick up basic skills to cultivate awareness, appreciation, compassion, and equanimity. The session will explore psychological explanations of basic processes of mind. Participants will be introduced to (i) ways to anchor, (ii) practice taking a pause (iii) rediscover the feel of things and noticing the changing feeling-tones.
Going Beyond Temporary Relief
Additionally, the session will include down-to-earth contemplations that can expand the range of benefits mindfulness can bring. These contemplations start with closer examination of what we are presented with every day but habitually ignore.
Sections of our time together will be interspersed with guided practices for each to discover through direct experience.
Cost: $60 or Koha/donation if finances are too tight. (Tea and light refreshments offered midway through each session.
