Some NEO members will be going backpacking in Havasupai in September, and NEO is hosting a Backpacking 101 camp at Lake Somerville State Park July 25-27 to practice for the conditions we will experience during our Havasupai backpacking trip.

Before Lake Somerville, we are hosting this Camping and Backpacking Gear 101 session via Zoom for our Austin members. One of our Houston members will share the virtual gear tour through their phone via Zoom.

The Houston group is meeting at a shopping center on Westheimer that has both an Academy and an REI. We will start out at Academy to discuss affordable camping and backpacking options before heading to REI to discuss upgrade options and how you should choose your gear upgrades.

This session will discuss everything from hydration packs, to backpacks, sleeping pads, cooking gear, hiking poles, and much more... everything you need to start camping and backpacking or things to consider when upgrading your gear.
