Leaving 5 minutes after the start time. During that 5 minutes I'll chat about the history of the area and NEO. Sunset is around 8pm-ish.
Hiking Wilcrest west then over the bayou to the dirt trail (anthills) towards Dairy Ashford. These trails have elevation changes, slopes, along with roots throughout the trails. We will keep an eye/ear open for the owls that live around the trails.
If the trails have puddles of water on them we will walk the paved trail on the north bank of the bayou.
There is an option for anyone to cross over at Kirkwood if the elevation changes in the hike are a bit too much. You can then take the paved trail back to the starting point.
Total distance will be approx. 5+/- miles.
Parking is street parking within the neighborhood along Wycliffe street (which is parallel to Wilcrest)
Houston is huge so any rain chance prediction does not mean it will rain in the area of the hike. https://weather.com/weather/radar/interactive/l/85d7f10298720a0f99fe16258c4756827ed3b56ed59447e35bf0e5f79bb0ddd6?par=samsung_widget
Dogs are welcome but must be friendly, and they must stay on a leash at all times...no exceptions. There could be multiple dogs, so be sure they are not dog aggressive.
There are no restrooms at the trailhead or along the trail.
Supplies:
•Water
•Hiking shoes or shoes with good tread
•Bug spray
•Head lamp or flashlight (approx 120 lumens, but not over 200 lumens)
