Best Picture 2010 Oscar Nominees Showcase

So much do you love movies?

AMC Theatres is putting on a Best Picture Showcase this year featuring all 10 Best Picture Oscar nominees. Five will be shown on Saturday, February 27th and five the remaining five on Saturday, March 6th.

This meetup is for the first Saturday, February 27th.

We'll meet at AMC Parkway Pointe in Smyrna. It's centrally located for almost everyone and there are spots for eats, drinks and browsing/shopping/lounging between flicks within walking distance.

We will have lunch or dinner at a restaurant nearby.

The movies will include Avatar in 3D, Precious and three other Best Picture nominees. The final three movies will be announced shortly. Most likely, they will be chosen from Up in the Air, A Serious Man, An Education and The Blind Side. Up is a possibility as well.

Unlimited popcorn is included with your ticket.

How much will it cost to see FIVE movies?

$30. If you are an AMC MovieWatcher member, it's only $25. WHAT?! That's right. $25. That's five bucks a movie. You couldn't beat that price to see a new release unless you had a Delorean tricked out with a flux capacitor. You can join for free at If you think you'll be back for next week's marathon, you can purchase passes for both days for $40.

Whether you buy a one day or two day pass the price includes a bottomless bucket of popcorn.

Will the savings never end?

But I've never attended a Movies, Museums, etc. meetup. What if I 'm not sure about spending 10+ hours with strangers?

I know, right? That's a long time. Sounds intense. Well, there are two schools of thought about this matter.

1. After 10+ hours you won't be strangers anymore! Where's your sense of adventure?

2. If you don't like a movie in the line up or need a break, just walk down to Borders, browse a bit, have a cup of Joe. Or if a particular movie leaves you wondering who the heck picks these films and how any human being can function with such poor taste, sashay over to Locos, saddle up to the bar and have a margarita. I'm sure you won't be the only one of us taking a break.

The details:

The first film will begin around 10am or 11am.

There will be breaks in between movies.

The theatre will hand out lanyards (nothing says movie geek like a lanyard!) with a pass so that you may come and go as you please.

You must purchase your ticket at theater to get the MovieWatcher discount. Just swing by the theatre as soon as you can to make sure you get have a ticket on the big day. Or you can pay a few dollars more to buy it online.

I will update the time, lineup and other essential details as they are made available.

Don't delay. RSVP today.

See you there!
