The Great North Run is the biggest and most popular half marathon in the UK and the most successful running event in the world. Starting in Newcastle upon Tyne the 13.1-mile route takes in all of the city’s iconic sites. The run was devised by former Olympic 10,000m bronze medallist and BBC Sport commentator Brendan Foster.
