Neurodivergent Meditation Society: "Meditation Done Divergently"
Traditional meditation wasn't designed for minds like ours. Many neurodivergent people have tried meditation and felt like they were "failing" at it because standard practices can feel overwhelming or create anxiety rather than calm.
Ever tried to meditate and the words "simply observe your breath" makes you hyper-aware of every sensation, sound, and thought competing for your attention? Ever noticed how being told to "sit quietly and focus" makes your thoughts race faster and your body feel like it needs to move even more? That's not a you problem - that's a meditation-wasn't-designed-for-our-brains problem. 🧠
The Neurodivergent Meditation Society exists because we know meditation can be profoundly beneficial for building self-awareness and supporting mental health - but it needs to work with our brains, not against them.
✨What We Do Differently ✨
• Movement that makes sense: Bilateral stimulation, slow yoga, fidgeting with textured objects. If you need to move to be present, we've got you covered.
• Sensory choices: Want music in your headphones? Cool. Need a weighted blanket? We have them. Prefer to doodle while listening? Perfect. Whatever helps your nervous system settle.
• Real talk about meditation: We'renot going to pretend meditation will fix everything or that you need to become some zen master. We're just trying to give your brain a break so you feel less overwhelmed and more able to take on life's challenges.
• Community without pressure: Come for the meditation, stay to chat with other people who get it. No pressure to share or socialize if you're not feeling it. ❤️
