Welcome! Thank you for your interest in the Nevada Yacht Club Sailing Class. In addition to the sail training book that you will receive in the class room you will also get one t-shirt per person registered. Additional t-shirts are available throughout the weekend for $15 per t-shirt. Directions: Take I-95 South to Boulder City. At your second light (Buchanan) turn left. Go down US-93 until you see the turn off for Lake Mead National Park. (It will be a left turn.) If you come up on the Hacienda Hotel and Casino, then you have gone too far. Follow the road, until you come up on the gate. This is where you will pay your $10. Once you go through the gate, you will take your first right. You will then go down the road, until you see a sign that says Lake Mead Marina. Turn right. Follow that road, it looks like it will end, but it doesn't, you will want to keep going. Yes, it is a dirt road (part of it has been recently paved). There will be a sign pointing you to the dirt road for the Lake Mead Marina. Follow the dirt road and it will bring you to Lake Mead Marina. Once you park, you will want to walk up the main walkway. You will walk between the restaurant and store, and end up on the patio. You are there! Lake Mead Marina Boat House restaurant meeting room. Schedule: Saturday: Classroom - 8-12, Lunch on your own (the marina will have menu specials), Sailing Time 1 - ? Skipper determines the ending time! Sunday: Learning Stations and Sail Wrap - Up 8 – 12, Lunch, Sailing Time 1 – 3:30. In the morning we will be introducing you to the fundamentals of sailing in a lively and interactive forum. In the afternoon, weather permitting, we will break up into small groups and hit the water to practice skills discussed in the morning session. Please understand that your safety is our priority! In the event of unforeseen circumstances, namely, weather, the instructors may be forced to alter the class schedule. For example: if on Saturday afternoon there is too much or too little wind, we may go to Sunday’s schedule, opening up the whole day on Sunday to sail. What to Bring: Weather-appropriate clothing. Food and drinks are available at the restaurant and the marina store. A small cooler is okay, but when you are aboard, space can be limited. Miscellaneous: Water, Sunscreen, Sunscreen for your lips, Hat, Camera, and Jacket. General Info: There is a $10.00 fee per week to enter the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. You may want to consider the $30.00 annual pass if you plan to return to the lake often.
You must be physically capable to get on and off of a sailboat without help. Children are welcome, but must be able to sit through classroom instruction and will be required to bring their own Coast Guard approved life vests. If you are already a sailor and want to join a racing team we are always looking for qualified crew, and future boat owners... Location: Lake Mead Marina.
