Bottom UP: The foundations of Lean / OPEX - 5S + Visual Mgt + Standards

5S, Visual Management, & Standardization are the foundations of all Lean & OpEx initiatives. This does not mean they are basic or simple, but without a solid execution and continuous measuring and improving, any lean initiative built on them will crumble.

5S is a Lean technique that involves organizing and standardizing the workplace to improve efficiency, safety, and quality. The approach follows the steps of Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain, to focus on eliminating waste, reducing errors, and increasing productivity.

Visual management is a Lean tool that uses visual aids to communicate important information about an organization's operations. The goal of visual management is to make it easier for employees to understand the work that they need to do, as well as to identify and quickly respond to problems or issues that arise.

Standardization is the process of creating and implementing standardized work processes and procedures. Standardization is a key component of Lean, as it helps to create consistency and reduce waste by eliminating unnecessary variations in work processes.

Together, the 3 practices shape the Stable & Repetive process and outcome, from which Lean, Continuous Improvement, and Operational Excellence are built.

In this session, we will give an overview of the 5S, Visual Mgt, & Standards including how and when to use them. We will also hear from Master Lean Practitioners, Kasia Oelofese and Eamonn McKenna on the practicalities of applying them, when to use them, and how to use them correctly.

As with all Buzzwords sessions, we will have templates to help you get started or improve these foundations.

Speakers
Kasia is a Master Black Belt Lean, Six Sigma continuous improvement professional with over 18 years of experience in multi-functional shared services and supply chain global organisations. Prior to joining Jigsaw Better Business as a Lean Coach in 2020, Kasia held senior Lean / CI roles in Coca-Cola & Hertz.

Eamonn is a Lean Six Sigma Learning & Development professional with vast experience in leadership, training design, problem solving and facilitation skills delivering innovative solutions to achieve business objectives. Prior to joining Jigsaw Better Business as a Lean Coach in 2020, Eamonn held senior Lean / L& D roles in MSD.

Stuart is a Master Black Belt Lean & Six Sigma and has trained and coached 1000's of indivduals in Lean practices. He is also currently a PhD researcher exploring Models of Operational Excellence for SMEs
