Discussion Group: "The Righteous Mind"

Details

Fluidity Lyceum is a monthly book discussion group, in which one person speaks for about ten minutes about a book they've read, and we spend the rest of the time discussing it! This was started by attendees of a local annual conference, Fluidity Forum. https://fluidityforum.org

This month we will be discussing "The Righteous Mind" by social psychologist Jonathan Haidt. Why are we so easily divided into hostile groups, each one certain of its righteousness? In "The Righteous Mind", Haidt attempts to answer this very question by delving into the underlying intuitions behind our moral stances - and why understanding these differences can help us navigate an increasingly polarized world.
Haidt explores how our moral judgments stem not from reasoning but from evolved instincts designed to foster group cohesion - instincts that create friction in today's complex, pluralistic societies.

Please join us for this free event. All are welcome to attend and reading this month's book is not required to participate. This is a gathering for those with intellectual curiosity looking to connect with like minded people.

Past Lyceum books have included:
- Turn Your Life Into Art
- Rebuilding Society On Meaning
- The Embodied Mind
- Unlearning Shame
- The Art Of Gathering
