Lately I’ve been feeling increasingly overwhelmed, angry, scared, and powerless about what’s happening politically in the U.S. Rising authoritarianism, attacks on LGBTQ and immigrant communities, and the general sense that democratic norms are breaking down have taken a real emotional toll on me and many people I know.

As a therapist, I’ve also been working with more and more people who are struggling with the same feelings: overwhelm, isolation, doomscrolling, helplessness, and burnout.

One thing that has genuinely helped me has been getting involved with a small local political organizing group. Not because it magically fixes everything, but because it helps replace isolation with connection and helplessness with meaningful action. It also reminds me that political engagement doesn’t have to just feel exhausting and grim all the time.

This gathering is for people who are feeling emotionally overwhelmed by the current political climate and want a place to connect with others who get it.

At this event we’ll:

  • Meet and connect with each other
  • Talk about ways to stay engaged without burning out
  • Learn more about how local politics can actually make a difference
  • Hear from our guest speaker, Michigan State Representative Natalie Price
  • Share opportunities for ongoing community and organizing

Natalie will talk about how local government can be a meaningful place to focus energy right now, and answer questions about what ordinary people can realistically do to help protect vulnerable communities and democratic institutions.

Mostly, this is intended to be a space where people can feel a little less alone.

Doors will open at 6:15 PM. We will begin at 6:30 PM and end by 8:30 PM.
