Canon EOS R3 : Autofocus Setup for Bird Photography

Details

The Canon R3 supports a seemingly endless amount of customization which can make finding the optimal AF setup for bird photography a daunting task.

We will take a detailed look at all of the options available for AF configuration. One very popular approach for bird and wildlife photography is to utilize a double or triple back-button focus method which we will cover in detail. However, I have always found this idea to be a bit overcomplicated and limiting. Therefore, I will also present a distinctly different setup that I have been using since the introduction of the R5 and R6. I find this alternate method to be simpler and much more flexible. It will enable you to quickly optimize your AF settings for the exact situation you find in front of you at any given time.

I will mirror my R3’s rear LCD to my computer screen and share it via Zoom so you will be able to follow along in real-time as I navigate through the various setup menus. This will be supplemented with “Powerpoint” slides as needed.

Please have your R3 available with a small lens attached so that you can follow along as we go.

We may not need the entire 3 hours that I have scheduled, but I wanted to be sure to have ample time to accommodate any and all questions which will be welcome and encouraged throughout the presentation.
