Meet Solr 5

Details

5:30 - 6:00 PM - Pizza and Networking

The meeting will begin with a lightning talk by Al Cole (https://www.linkedin.com/in/coleal) on search-based applications and how they can be used to exploit the features of a search platform like Apache Solr. After that, David Smiley (https://www.linkedin.com/in/davidwsmiley) will deliver the following presentation to the group.

Meet Solr 5

This is an introductory presentation about Solr 5, especially suited to those that have either never used Solr or haven’t used it lately. If you haven’t used Solr in a long time, then you may find Solr 5 familiar yet new at the same time. With a modicum of slides, the majority of the presentation will be a hands-on demonstration as David walks through some basic scenarios. After the basics are covered, David will show off some of Solr’s more recent features that give Solr 5 a different feel than earlier versions, such as making changes to Solr that are now possible to do via HTTP API calls that previously were done by editing files. He will then venture into some “coming soon” territory to demonstrate Solr’s new faceting API that was ported from Helliosearch, and show off a new administration UI that will soon replace the former one. Come with your questions — David will give you answers!
