Mapping the Disc Golf Course at Bellamy Park

Bellamy Park in Dover NH has a disc golf course in the woods. Very little of it seems to be on OpenStreetMap:

For this meetup, we'll add what we can to make it come alive on the map. We'll add the elements of the disc golf course to the map directly from our phones. If we identify paths through the woods, we will record GPS traces and add them to the map later from our laptops.

This event will be a bit more coordinated than previous events, and may be less friendly to beginners, though beginners are still welcome. Please take a look at the preparation section below.

Preparation

For disc golf:

You'll need a full featured OSM editor. For Android, get Vespucci (Google Play or F-Droid). For iOS, get Go Map!! (App Store). Create an OpenStreetMap.org account and log into your app.

For trails:

Firstly, you'll need an app that can create GPS traces and export in the GPX format. If you have an app that you already like for this, great! Otherwise I recommend OsmAnd (only because I'm familiar with it). Visit https://osmand.net/ for Android and iOS links. (It's also available on F-Droid). The UI for this app is complicated so I can walk you through it. If you want to take a look at how tracing works ahead of time you can, but I'm not sure all of these instructions are necessary.

Secondly, I invite you to bring your laptop for use at North Country Hard Cider afterwards. Either be logged into your OpenStreetMap.org account, or have your username and password ready. I can take you through using the web based OSM editor to turn your GPX trace into a trail. Otherwise, you can look into it yourself and I can be available to answer questions.

Bonus

If someone brings the equipment, maybe we sneak in one or two holes of disc golf! (I actually know nothing about this game so you'll have to teach us)
