What we’re about
Welcome to the book club!
Our style is informal, drop in and out as you please, and non-conformist so there is no required reading. It’s up to you what you bring to the table. We talk about fantasy one moment and philosophy the next.
All books are welcome but you should strike a balance struck between books written purely for entertainment, on the one hand, and literature and non-fiction with some complexity, on the other.
We will discuss/dissect the psychological, philosophical, political, historical, social and cultural themes and issues that arise from the text (depending on the depth of the book), and in general you are expected to have something analytical to say about the text. Broader discussions about society are welcome, and open-mindedness, intellectual honesty and critical thinking are obligatory here.
True to our informal style, you do not necessarily have to read a book. If you have seen a great film that’s left a lingering impression, a series or documentary, read an essay, done independent research, or are absorbed in a podcast, please feel free to talk about that instead. These are just as worth talking about as books.
