The Awakening Earth Community

Details

We are excited to have this joint program with the New Orleans Sierra Club!

**Doors open at 2:30pm for socializing; program starts at 3pm.**

What does it mean for us, as human beings, to be part of the Earth community? What does it mean for us to be an awakened part of that community? What are our practical responsibilities at this particular point in Earth history?

We are emerging from the Cenozoic Era, literally, the era of “new life” on Earth. With the coming of the sixth great mass extinction, we are entering what we might call the Necrocene, a new era of death on Earth. To what extent are we responsible for this momentous change in the direction of Geohistory? To what extent can we help change this direction?

Our speaker will be John P. Clark is a philosopher, activist, writer, and educator. He lives in New Orleans, where his family has been for thirteen generations. He is Director of La Terre Institute for Community and Ecology and Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Loyola University.
