Re: [atheists-767] Idea for new freethinkers group...

I suppose I could take the initiative and help put some thing together. I'm 24 with a flexible work schedule so I guess that makes me qualified. Maybe a simple coffee shop meet up would be best to begin. I'll be going to the happy hour on the 4th to get a taste of what it's all about.

That's a good idea. I have no problem with meeting people older than I, but having a younger meet up would be interesting just to see where my generations views stand. Also, the ambiance of a loud bar is a turn off if I can't hear people speak.

I've been giving it some thought over the past year and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in having an "under 35" social group?

While there are several ways for all of the active NOSHA members to meet at monthly speaker meetings and our current happy hours (which will continue as planned and be open to everyone), it seems that a social activity designed by and for the "under 35" crowd might spark more people to become involved in the secular community and feel comfortable with non-belief.

Also, this could help to develop a secular student group at one or more of our area campuses, which is another important way to spur young adults to take charge politically and become involved in the secular movement.

If you are 35 or younger and would like to come up with a social event that would appeal specifically to the younger secular humanists in our area, we could promote it to our lists and I'm betting that this will encourage more people to come together and help build YOUR community.

Let me know what you think and we'll help to get something started!
