My annual visit to Bookham Common, one of my favourite open pieces of land in Surrey.
As normal, a 4-4.5 mile walk that should take around 2 hours but allow a little longer so people can stop and enjoy the surroundings. I last led this in 2021.
Most of us like to see wildlife and here we normally pass a field of llamas and usually see loads of various butterflies and birds of course if the sun is out. Taking in Bookham and Effingham commons, you can relax and enjoy the scenery with not a great deal of noise most of the time. You can probably get round with little difficulty in shorts but long socks would be recommended as the grass gets long in places.
There are one or two stiles but it is very flat and adorable in places.
I did a walk from here a year ago to great enthusiasm, so hopefully we can recreate that atmosphere again although it is a very different route with only a small duplication from last time.
NO DOGS PLEASE.
You can call me on 07395 004461
The sat nav will probably get you lost, so from Cobham (Between Streets) from the A3, turn right at Waitrose onto Downside Bridge Road until you reach the Cricketers pub on your left. Turn left very soon after onto Downside Common Road and then continue onwards bearing right at the junction onto Bookham Road and drive below the motorway and as far as you can which will take a couple of minutes. You will then reach Hundred Pound Bridge car park where I will be waiting.
I hope to see you there.
Mike
