Cross Country Skiing at Minnewaska (Hopefully!)

Tentatively scheduling this in the hope there’s snow! I’ll confirm details on Tuesday night.

Please note - Minnewaska does not rent XC ski gear. Check with Rock and Snow.

Route Info & Skill Level

• Distance / Pace / Route: TBD - Typically out to Castle Point (3.6 miles) and onward to Lake Awosting, which makes a ~10 mile loop. Minnewaska Ski Trail map
• Trails are "more difficult" with some options for "most difficult". They are generally groomed, although sometimes not the far loop. Group pace will be for experienced skiers.

Logistics & Meeting Info

• Meeting Time: 10am (I'll leave Brooklyn at 7:30am, should get me there by 9:30am)
• Meeting Location: Meet inside the main visitor's center (Google Maps). Note that cell phone reception can be poor in that area, but I think the center has reception.
• Public Transit: None

Required Gear & Skills:

• Cross Country Ski gear: Minnewaska does not rent gear. Check Rock & Snow in New Paltz if you need to rent (and remember to leave yourself plenty of time to pick up gear.) Metal-edge XC skies are recommended.
• Layered winter clothing: Wicking base-layer top and bottom; insulating top layer (usually fleece); windbreaker/ softshell jacket; insulated water-resistant pants; waterproof shell pants and jacket; big puffy jacket; warm and water resistant gloves and mittens (two pair); face protection; winter hat; headlamp; hand and foot warmers.

You might want hiking boots and microspikes and/or snow shoes for some short side hikes to the falls.
