Once again, join me for a Friday night dinner dedicated to the wines of Soos Creek. Soos Creek is one of my favorite wines, a solid value-oriented producer whose wines offer a great QPR value! We will have 1 white and 4 red wines at this 8 person dinner. We will be dining at Bobby Van's on Park. Located on the corner of Park Avenue and 46th Street.

Here is a link to their menu...

Just a reminder of our usual rules:

** The cost of this event is $25 and is for the cost of the wines only.

You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 32% for tax and tip). Please order at least two courses (i.e. a main dish and either appetizer or dessert) for your dinner. There are very few restaurants that allow us to bring our own wine for a Zero corkage fee. We must be good guests to encourage the restaurant to continue to be generous to us.

Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $2 service fee.

Please use public transportation - NO DRINKING AND DRIVING!

Soos Creek doesn't produce a white wine, so I am including this Godello from Bierzo, Spain. It isn't everyone's taste, but those that like it, LOVE it.
The Wines (notes will be distributed at the dinner):

2020 Raul Pérez Bierzo Ultreia La Claudina ($60) - CT 93.3. WA 94 points,"The 2020 Ultreia La Claudina comes from a plot on sandy soils that needs higher ripeness to avoid excess bitterness. In 2020 it matured in 50% new barrels as they wanted to see how the wine behaved. It has power and consistence, but the style is a little different from what the wine was before, a little creamier and marked by the élevage. There are some 2,200 bottles from 1,700 liters of wine. (drink 2022-2027)"

2013 Soos Creek Ciel du Cheval Vineyard ($28) – CT 91, WA last reviewed this in 2010, but every vintage from 2010 back to 2002 scored over 90 points with them. From the winery's newsletter, "The blend from this iconic vineyard is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, and 11% Cabernet Franc. Picking the grapes a little earlier to retain more acid gives the wine a bit more energy to accompany the abundant but unobtrusive tannins. It has black currant and mineral flavors and is a complete wine with excellent concentration and length that should age well for 20+ years."

2017 Soos Creek Sundance ($25) – CT 89.5, One of Soos Creek’s Merlot heavy blends it is 46% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Franc and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon

2016 Soos Creek Artist Series ($27) – CT 91.3, No other reviews, a blend of 50% Cabernet Franc, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Merlot.

2016 Soos Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Terrible Beauty ($28) – CT 92. 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, sourced from the Ciel du Cheval, Dineen and Slide Mountain Vineyards. The label artwork was painted by the owner’s son, Kevin Larsen

2014 Soos Creek Champoux Vineyard ($40) – CT 92.3, the 25th vintage that Soos Creek has produced from this vineyard. 83% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17% Cabernet Franc.
