Soos Creek vs Andrew Will at OM
Details
Time to compare two of my favorite WA wineries, Soos Creek and Andrew Will. We will be dinning at OM Indian restaurant for this 8 person event. It will feature 2 red wines each from Soos Creek and Andrew Will. Since neither winery makes a white wine, I have selected a German Reisling to start off the evening.
OM is located at 1531 York Ave, Corner of 81st Street. They do charge a small corkage fee, which is included in the price of the event.
NOTE: Meetup charges a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It comes to approximately $3 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. Sorry! NOTE: Meetup+ members are exempt.
Just a reminder of our usual rules:
* The cost of this event is $41 and is for the cost of the wines and corkage only. You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). Please order at least two courses (i.e. a main dish and either appetizer or dessert) for your dinner.
Please use public transportation - NO DRINKING AND DRIVING!
Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). There is also a $5 service charge for cancellations.
The Wines (notes will be distributed at the dinner):
2023 Weingut Günther Steinmetz Neumagener Rosengärtchen Riesling Am Fels ($40) - Stuart Piggot 98 points "An explosion of tropical fruit and spice aromas, but this is a super-elegant and light-footed dry Mosel that's extraordinarily delicate and fresh for a wine with this enormous concentration and smoky intensity on the medium-bodied palate. Great raciness at the extremely long and crystalline finish. Drink or hold."
I don't know who Stuart Piggot is and he may be cut from same cloth as James Suckling, so I would take the numerical score with a grain (or two) of salt. But it is a very tasty wine!
2019 Soos Creek Artist Series ($30) - Supposedly the Last Vintage of this wine. But you never know....anyway a blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot.
2014 Soos Creek Champoux Vineyard ($40) - I LOVE this vineyard. A blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Cabernet Franc.
2014 Andrew Will Champoux Vineyard ($45) - WA 94 points, "The 2014 Champoux Vineyard has sensational purity in its lifted bouquet of cassis, black raspberries, violets and spring flowers. There's a touch of graphite that develops with time in the glass; it has fine, polished tannin and an elegant, silky texture." A blend of 43% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec.
2016 Andrew Will Ciel du Cheval Vineyard ($50) - JD 92+ points, "Violet, cassis, blueberry, cedar, and graphite notes all emerge from the 2016 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard, which is from a great vineyard on Red Mountain. A blend of 57% Merlot and 43% Cabernet Franc brought up in 25% new oak, it's young and primordial, with loads of fruit balanced by good acidity, but it needs time to come together. Readers looking for classic, age-worthy Bordeaux blends that will stand up with the best out there need to give the wines of Andrew Will a serious look. These are classic, balanced wines that deserve more attention in the market."
