Saturday Night at Akdeniz

Details

We are going to eat upstairs at the round table near the window, over the Akdeniz sign, so I have to hold this Saturday night dinner to 6 people. There will be 1 white wine and 3 red wines at this 6 person dinner.

We will be dining at Akdeniz, a favorite Turkish restaurant in Midtown West.

Here is a link to their menu

Just a reminder of our usual rules:

The cost of this event is $43 and is for the wines and corkage. You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). Please order at least two courses (i.e. a main dish and appetizer ). There are very few restaurants that allow us to bring our own wine for a low corkage.

NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It is annoying and confusing, but there is nothing I can do about it. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. MEETUP+ members are exempt from this charge.

Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $5 service fee.

Lastly: NO DRINKING AND DRIVING

The Wines (notes will be distributed at the dinner):

2018 Big Basin Vineyards Roussanne Homestead Block ($25) - From CA's Santa Cruz Mountains. Antonio Galloni (VM): “92 points; The 2018 Roussanne Homestead Block is a gorgeous white loaded with varietal character and plenty of nuance. Apricot, dried flowers, tangerine oil, chamomile and almonds fill out the layers as this oily, beautifully textured Roussanne opens in the glass. The 2018 offers a striking mix of the freshness of the year with the natural richness of Roussanne.

2015 Mas Martinet Priorat Clos Martinet ($59) - From Priorat, Spain, it is a Grenache based blend including, Garnacha, Syrah, Cariñena, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, but I can't find the percentages- CT 92.6, WA 96 points, "I love the 2015 Clos Martinet, which I find complex and elegant while keeping the Priorat rustic character found in the best vintages, like 2000. It's balanced, and the palate feels ethereal for the concentration it has. The tannins are abundant but very fine-grained, and there is a sense of harmony that is captivating. A great Clos Martinet. I had the chance to drink the 2000 a few days before I tasted this, and it remains one of the best years they have produced. 2015 is also among the best years. 12,000 bottles were filled in April 2017. (drink 2018-2028)"

2020 Two Vintners Oliver Stonetree Vineyard ($33) - From WA State, Vinous Eric Guido, 92 points, "The 2020 Oliver opens with a bouquet that mixes both savory and sweet. Dusty violet and lavender tones give way to mint and spiced plum aromas. It’s luxuriously silky and elegant on the palate. Juicy acidity motivates the tart wild berry fruits as sour citrus adds contrast toward the close. It finishes spicy and with outstanding length, leaving subtly grippy tannins and clove to taper off slowly. The Oliver is 90% Grenache from the Weather Eye Vineyard, plus 5% Boushey Vineyard Syrah and 5% Olsen Vineyard Petite Sirah. Drink 2024-2029."

2021 The Walls Vineyards The Ramparts - ($50) - From WA state a blend of 59% Grenache, 24% Mourvèdre, 15% Syrah, 6% Counoise from the Red Heaven Vineyard - Red Mountain AVA. JD 92 points, "The Grenache-dominated 2021 The Ramparts offers lots of up-front red and black fruits as well as spicy, peppery, underbrush nuances, medium to full body, fine tannins, and a soft, pure, layered, already hard-to-resist style."
