Mostly Soos Creek!
Details
Sometimes it's fun to do an evening of wines all dedicated to one winery, and for this dinner, all the red wines will come from one of my favorite value wineries, Soos Creek of WA state.. Our last event dedicated to Soos Creek was back in October, so it's time to revisit their wines. As they don't make a white wine, I'll bring a WA State white to fill out the event.
We will return to perennial favorite, Bobby Van's on Park for a 7pm reservation.
Here is a link to their menu...

Just a reminder of our usual rules:
** The cost of this event is $27 and is for the cost of the wines only.
NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. Sorry! Meetup+ members are exempt from this charge.
You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). Please order at least two courses (i.e. a main dish and either appetizer or dessert) for your dinner. There are very few restaurants that allow us to bring our own wine for a Zero corkage fee. We must be good guests to encourage the restaurant to continue to be generous to us.
Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $6 service fee.
Please use public transportation - NO DRINKING AND DRIVING!
The Wines :
2021 DeLille Cellars Chaleur Estate Blanc ($35) - I've always enjoyed this WA State Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc blend, an homage to the white wines of Bordeaux. WA 93+ points, "The 2021 Chaleur Blanc is made from 67% Sauvignon Blanc and 33% Sémillon. The nose is oaky, fresh and lifted with notes of yellow apples, sweet citrus and a delightfully soft mineral essence. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is focused, balanced and succulent with notions of lemon pastry cream and vanilla that sway with a delicate mineral tension. The wine concludes with a focused, fresh and lingering finish. At $42 a bottle, this is perhaps one of the best Washington Sauvignon Blanc/Sémillon blends in the market today. Just over 67,000 bottles were produced. This was almost all barrel fermented and barrel aged, with 51% new French oak. Impressive!"
2021 Soos Creek Enchantments ($29) - 75% Merlot.
2023 Soos Creek Syrah Commander Comet ($37) - Soos Creek's only Syrah. Owen Bargreen 93 points, "Sourced from the Horse Heaven Hills, the 2023 ‘Commander Comet’ offers juicy dark currants and figs on the palate alongside fabulous viscosity and verve. Bright and delicious with a smooth mouthfeel, enjoy now and over the next eight plus years. Drink 2025-2033"
2016 Soos Creek Ciel du Cheval Vineyard ($40) - WA 90 points, "Beginning with a dark ruby core and lighter ruby edge, the 2016 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard offers up complex and layered aromas, wafting with scents of roasted coffee beans, bitter dark chocolate, stewed plums, cherry compote, crème de cassis and dusty blackberry skin. The medium to full-bodied wine has expressive and dusty, dark red fruit tones, a mineral essence and firm tannins that grip the gumline. This concludes with a compact and layered finish. It should easily age past its tenth birthday, but I suspect it will drink better in two to three years. NOTE: Given the date of the review, I think recommend drinking window is 2024-2027.
2021 Soos Creek Champoux Vineyard ($41) - This was the unanimous WOTN the last time we did a Soos Creek night. Owen Bargreen 94 points, "A beautiful and also very delicious blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon with the remainder Merlot, this saw 50% new French oak before bottling. This is lush, pillowy and soft on the mouth. Loganberry cordial, anise and creme de cassis flavors all mingle well with refined tannins and brilliant structure. Enjoy this fabulous wine now and over the next fifteen years to come. Drink 2024-2039"
