Details
Yes, this is an Easter Sunday dinner! If you have no plans, please join me at Peking Duck House Midtown for a Sunday dinner.
NOTE: This is a family style dinner. It will include 2 portions of the restaurants Peking Duck entree. Do not sign up unless you are prepared to eat family style. The price will also include a deposit for your dinner of $25.
We will have 2 Rieslings, one from Germany and 1 from Slovakia, 1 WA State Gewurtztraminer , and 2 CA Pinot Noirs.
We will be ordering family style (all for sharing), and we'd be splitting the bill equally (plus 33% for tax and tip). The cost for dinner will be $75 per person, including the tax and tip. The menu will be as follows.
Spring Roll and Barbecued Beef as appetizers, a choice of soup,
(Hot & Sour or House Special Duck Soup)
Two Peking Ducks, Crispy String Beans w. Minced Pork and a group choice (meaning we will work it out at the dinner) of 3 additional entrees w/ Fried Rice.
Just a reminder of our usual rules:
** The cost of this event is $78 and is for the cost of the wines, corkage and a $25 credit towards dinner. Peking Duck House does charge corkage per bottle, and that's included in the event fee.
NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It is annoying and confusing, but there is nothing I can do about it. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. Sorry!
Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $6 service fee.
Please use public transportation - NO DRINKING AND DRIVING!
The Wines (notes will be distributed at the dinner):
2019 Château Belá (Egon Müller) Dry Riesling ($27) - CT 89.5, A dry Riesling from Slovakia that we have enjoyed previously. I find it a little fuller bodied and less acidic than German Rieslings. JD 90 points, "I loved the 2019 Riesling, a smoking value in impeccably made Riesling. Medium gold-hued, with lively notes of green citrus, honeyed stone fruits, mint, and a kiss of chalky minerality, it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, a round, supple, mouthfeel, good acidity, and a great finish. It finishes clean and dry and will be versatile on the dinner table."
2021 Weingut Rings Kallstadter Saumagen Riesling Großes Gewächs ($79) - CT 92.8, WA 94 points, "The 2021 Kallstadter Saumagen Riesling GG from the Rings brothers opens clear and quite reductive on the nose but shows deep, ripe, elegant fruit in the background. Round and elegant in the mouth, this is a firm, grippy, still quite phenolic Riesling with a firm, fresh, pleasantly bitter as well as saline finish. It still needs time and especially aeration. 13% stated alcohol. Tasted in Wiesbaden, August 2022."
2021 Two Vintners O.G. ($25) - a WA State Gewurtztraminer . I couldn't find a review for the 2021, but here is Owen Bargreen's 93 point review for the 2022 vintage, "This 2022 Gewurtztraminer comes from the Olsen Vineyard and saw extended maceration (8 weeks) and is a brilliant yellow hue in the glass. Big and bold on the mouth, this shows lychee and peach tones on the palate, alongside good freshness and a seamless mouthfeel. For the price this one is a total steal. Drink 2024-2031" SMH NOTE: I always find West Coast Gerwurtztraminer on the spicy side.
2021 Rivers-Marie Pinot Noir Joy Road Vineyard ($65) - CT 92.5, JD 96 points, "Sourced from the West Sonoma Coast, the 2021 Pinot Noir Joy Road Vineyard offers peppery and mineral aromas of graphite, violet, and black cherry. Medium-bodied, with balanced ripeness and tangy redcurrant and orange zest, it has driving acidity and gripping tannins. Spicy and structured, it takes a more high-toned approach. Drink 2025-2040." NOTE: CT notes indicate this is a sweet fruit forward Pinot!
2021 Anthill Farms Pinot Noir Campbell Ranch Vineyard ($55) - CT 92.5, WA 95 points, "The 2021 Pinot Noir Campbell Ranch opens with deep tones of pomegranate and rhubarb before releasing notes of fir leaves, garrigue and earth. The light-bodied palate is velvety and seamlessly fresh, with a weightless yet powerfully perfumed core of fruit and a long, floral finish. It really opens up with time in the glass, so give it 2 to 3+ years in bottle or a couple hours in the decanter. (drink 2025-2035)"u
