More Burgundy, Part 2!
Details
I had so much fun at the most recent Burgundy event at Nice Matin that I'm basically doing it again! Two white wines, 1 Beaujolais, and 2 red Burgundies!
Please join me at Nice Matin for another night of Burgundy wines. This will be an 8-person dinner featuring 2 different white wines followed by 3 red (Pinot Noir) Burgundy wines. Why two white wines, and why am I breaking from my traditional 1 white/4 reds format? Because I've noticed that when I save my white wine for the first course, I end up finishing my food before I get to the final red wine. So I'm hoping that by having 2 whites, I'lll be able to pace myself a little better.

Nice Matin is located at 201 W. 79th Street, the corner of Amsterdam Ave.
** The cost of this event is $41 and is for the cost of the wines.
NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It is annoying and confusing, but there is nothing I can do about it. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. MEETUP+ members are exempt from this charge.
Just a reminder of our usual rules:
You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). You will be expected to order at least 2 dishes (an appetizer and a main, or main and dessert) to help support the restaurant.
Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $6 service fee.
The Wines (notes will be distributed at the dinner):
2022 Domaine Dujardin Bouzeron La Tournelle ($25) - I love Aligote! From the importer, "The village of Bouzeron is best known as the limestone rich epicenter of some of the noblest Aligoté in Burgundy. From a sloped parcel defined by its large amount of active limestone, this performs as the tonic, salty, and stony counterpoint to the Chasne, the yin-yang thing that I was referring to. Aromatically, you can smell the active limestone a-comin', which is only confirmed in the mouth. Its sense of precision is great, wonderfully harmonized between flesh and bone to a silky degree. This is great....a little * awarded here."
2022 Domaine Dujardin Monthélie La Combe Danay Blanc ($35) - From the same producer, this time a Chardonnay. From the importer, "The influence of the Combe Danay, a little north facing valley behind the village that regularly brings cool air currents, surrounded by woods on both sides, is a major player in giving this such a tonic, tensile presence in addition to moderate + concentration of yellow fruit; the limestone saltiness and flavor both aromatically and in the mouth is my rockhead cup of tea and then some. It's in the cool, silky, mineral style of great limestone dominant overachievers like Domaine Tawse's 1er cru Vergelesses blanc, Mallard's 1er Grechons, and the upper slope Beaune la Foulotte from Violot Guillemard. Get this if this style is in your wheelhouse, as the value meets substance meets style is top notch
2022 Domaine Lafarge-Vial Fleurie Clos Vernay ($50) - BH (Allen Meadows) 92 points, ""(from vines planted in 1975 and 1980). Ripe but agreeably cool aromas reflect notes of red gamay, cherry and soft earth wisps. The super-fine and beautifully detailed flavors are not as dense as the best in the range but I love the refined texture and the impeccable balance of the dusty, complex and sneaky long finale."
NOTE: Last time I poured this many of the group thought it was a Pinot Noir from Burgundy.
2021 Domaine Glantenay Volnay Vieilles Vignes ($60) - CT 91.3, Jasper Morris (89-91), Allen Meadows, Burghound (88-91) points, "From vines of at least 60 to as old as 92 years of age located in Les Buttes, La Gigotte, Les Combes and Petits Gamets). A more deeply colored robe is followed by a slightly riper array of plum, black cherry and a similar hint of crushed anise. There is better density to the precise, intense and richer medium weight flavors that possess a polished mouthfeel before terminating in a bitter cherry and lightly austere finish that offers better depth and persistence."
2021 Henri Magnien Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes ($70) - CT 90.1, WA 89 points, "Notes of plums, warm spices, red berries and peony introduce the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, a medium to full-bodied, ample and melting wine with a pretty core of fruit and an easygoing, accessible profile."
