A Journey Through Bordeaux & Beyond
Details
Please join me at Nice Matin for an evening showcasing four French wines, each expressing the character and elegance of its terroir.
We begin with the 2024 Rosé de Pinot Noir Pierre Yves Colin Morey. It's fresh and vibrant, with notes of wild strawberry, citrus zest, and crisp minerality.
From Pomerol, the 2021 Château Guillot Clauzel offers plush dark fruit and silky structure.
The 2019 Château Jean Faure from Saint-Émilion brings vibrant fruit, subtle spice, and elegance.
We conclude with the 2003 Château Smith Haut Lafitte of Pessac-Léognan, showing mature depth, tobacco, and a long, velvety finish.

Just a reminder of our usual rules:
** The cost of this event is $55 and is for the cost of the wines only.
NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It is annoying and confusing, but there is nothing I can do about it. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. MEETUP+ members are exempt from this charge.
You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). Please order at least two courses (i.e. a main dish and either appetizer or dessert) for your dinner. There are very few restaurants that allow us to bring our own wine for a Zero corkage fee. We must be good guests to encourage the restaurant to continue to be generous to us.
Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $6 service fee. Please use public transportation - NO DRINKING AND DRIVING!
The Wines:
2024 Rose de Pinot Noir Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey - (Empire Wine)From one of Burgundys most acclaimed white wine producers comes a rare and irresistible rose. Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey crafts this bottling entirely from Pinot Noir grown in a steep, high-altitude site in the village of Cormot-le-Grand, near Saint-Aubin in the Hautes Ctes de Beaune. Most of the fruit (85%) comes from the single lieu-dit En Vignes Baudet, planted over 55 years ago, with the remaining 15% from Santenay. Southwest-facing slopes, clay and limestone soils, and elevations of 400450 meters give the wine its freshness and precision.
Practicing organic farming, the grapes are direct-pressed for delicacy and fermented with indigenous yeast. The wine ages in older 350L barrels for subtle texture, remaining unfined and unfiltered to preserve every nuance.
Tasting Notes:
Brilliant, complex, and refreshingly easy to drink, this ros delivers delicate aromas of strawberry, raspberry, cranberry, and apple, along with hints of pear, melon, and apricot. Floral tones of rose petal, jasmine, orange blossom, and lily mingle with subtle savory notescedar, vanilla, clove, cinnamon, and an earthy, mushroom-like umami. Light yet layered, with a long, graceful finish.
Perfect Pairings:
Extremely versatile at the tablepair with roast chicken, grilled vegetables, tomato-based pasta, spicy dishes, leafy salads, or fried snacks. Also ideal as an aperitif. A ros thats as dressed to impress as it is food-flexible.
2021 Chateau Guillot Clauzel Pomerol - Vinous 93 ,The 2021 Guillot-Clauzel turned out beautifully. It shows terrific depth and tons of character, with no hard edges and fine balance. The oak, once an issue here, is impeccably integrated, but the 2021 also has surprising complexity. Black cherry, plum, lavender, licorice and spice fill out the layers. Guillot-Clauzel remains a rather stocky Pomerol, but the progress here in recent years has been remarkable.
2019 Chateau Jean Faure Saint-Emilion Grand Cru - WA 92, Offering up aromas of minty blackberries, licorice and sweet spices, the 2019 Jean Faure is full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with a fleshy core of fruit, melting tannins and succulent acids, concluding with a long, similarly minty finish. From a certified-organic property located between Cheval Blanc and Grand-Corbin-Despagne, this is a charming, expressive wine. Cabernet Franc represents more than 60% of the blend. (WK)
2003 Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte Pessac-Leognan - WA 91, A beauty of cassis, plum, tobacco leaf and spice, this dark plum/purple-hued, medium to full-bodied 2003 reveals sweet, round, cassis flavors. It has reached full maturity, but shows no signs of decline, and should continue to hold at this plateau for another decade. Although the 2003 is not up to the perfect levels of the 2009 and 2010, it is unquestionably a noteworthy success in a vintage that did not favor Pessac-Leognan. (RP)
