Details
I'm really enjoying Altamarino's, so I'm scheduling this Barolo vs. Spanish wine night there on Sunday, April 12th. Start time will be 6:30pm
There will be 5 wines at this 8 person event.
Altamarino's is located on the corner of E. 78th Street and York Ave. Here is link to their menu.

** The cost of this event is $39 and is for the cost of the wines.
NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It is annoying and confusing, but there is nothing I can do about it. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. MEETUP+ members are exempt from this charge.
Just a reminder of our usual rules:
You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). You will be expected to order at least 2 dishes (an appetizer and a main, or main and dessert) to help support the restaurant.
Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $6 service fee.
The Wines (notes will be distributed at the dinner):
2022 La Vizcaína Bierzo Lomas de Valtuille La del Vivo ($40) - CT 91.2l. A Raul Perez project, also from Spain, WA 95 points, "The white 2022 La Vizcaína La del Vivo comes from vines they own, all fermented without temperature control and never racked. It has a serious and austere nose that makes me think of a cooler year. There is good ripeness, and the wine achieved 13.5% alcohol but has very good freshness and acidity. It has notes of white flowers, fruit, spices and herbs and is complex, nuanced and elegant. It has a chalky palate with very fresh and clean flavors. (drink 2024-2032)"
2018 Raul Pérez Petit Verdot Valtuille ($50) - From Spain. I've previously had the 2020 vintage, which I loved. Here is what the importer said about the 2018 vintage, "From Valtuille village, a 40+-year-old plot belonging to the Perez family domaine. Raul has been experimenting with
through the years. Northeast orientation. Whole bunch fermentation, but shorter and more classic maceration time, 20
days before pressing. One 500 liters barrel, aged for 12 months. 600 bottles made."
2020 La Vizcaína Bierzo Las Gundiñas ($40) - From the same producer and also from Spain, this is 100% Mencia.
2013 Paolo Conterno Barolo Ginestra ($75) - CT 90.1, WA 95 points, "The 2013 Barolo Ginestra shows grace and purity, with significant power at the back that is partially fueled by the wine's well-integrated alcohol (recorded at 15%). The wine's texture is compact, and the flavor knitting is tight and carefully detailed. These qualities bode very well for the future evolution of this vintage that will undoubtedly soften and flesh out with more time in the bottle. (drink 2020-2035)"
2017 Azelia Barolo Bricco Fiasco ($75) - CT 91.8, WA 94 points, "A product of 85-plus-year-old vines in Castiglione Falletto, the 2017 Bricco Fiasco is subdued and delicate, with linear fruit of wild plum and blackberry, plus hints of blue flower and pressed violet. The age of the vines and the depth of the root system in the loose soils of this site have helped to maintain balance and freshness during the hottest moments of this vintage. (drink 2024-2040)"
