It is time for a Soos Creek of Washington State night at Bobby Van's. For this dinner we will have one white wine from WA state, followed by 4 red wines, all from on of my favorite wineries, Soos Creek.

Soos Creek is family run winery, and while they are a "value" winery, I feel that their wines punch way above their weight class. Plus they are really friendly people and I love being able to support their wines.

We will return to perennial favorite, Bobby Van's on Park for a 7pm reservation.

Here is a link to their menu...

Just a reminder of our usual rules:

** The cost of this event is $31 and is for the cost of the wines only.

NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. Sorry! Meetup+ members are exempt from this charge.

You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). Please order at least two courses (i.e. a main dish and either appetizer or dessert) for your dinner. There are very few restaurants that allow us to bring our own wine for a Zero corkage fee. We must be good guests to encourage the restaurant to continue to be generous to us.

Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $6 service fee.

The Wines :
2023 DeLille Cellars Chaleur Estate Blanc ($30) - I love this WA state Bordeaux blanc inspired wine! JD 94 points, "Blending 69% Sauvignon Blanc and 31% Semillon, the 2023 Chaleur Blanc is made in a rich, rounded style, with oak influence coming from its time in barrel, 42% new. The Semillon is from Klipsun Vineyard in Red Mountain and the Sauvignon Blanc from Sagemoor. Salty wet stone, dried apricot, and a hint of honey make it a compelling, medium-bodied white that shows a 25- to 30-year aging potential. (Drink between 2025-2055)"

2009 Soos Creek Champoux Vineyard ($32) - I'm hoping this is still within a prime drinking window, it is my oldest remaining bottle of Soos Creek. WA 91 points, "Predictably noteworthy among recent Soos Creek releases was their 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Champoux Vineyard, which captures a floral allure as well as a fresh fruitedness that one doesn’t often encounter with either this grape variety or vintage. Herbaceous and spicy elements are effectively woven into a fine-grained, polished tapestry of flavor, finishing with mouthwatering savor and considerable nuance of a mineral sort. I suspect this will drink well over the next 6-8 years." 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc.

2021 Soos Creek Champoux Vineyard ($42) - From old to young, an interesting comparison of 2 different vintages from the same vineyard. Owen Bargreen, 94 points, "A beautiful and also very delicious blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon with the remainder Merlot, this saw 50% new French oak before bottling. This is lush, pillowy and soft on the mouth. Loganberry cordial, anise and creme de cassis flavors all mingle well with refined tannins and brilliant structure. Enjoy this fabulous wine now and over the next fifteen years to come. Drink 2024-2039"

2018 Soos Creek Ciel du Cheval Vineyard ($40) - Another big time vineyard that Soos Creek sources from, 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot. Owen Bargreen, 93 points, "The densely packed 2018 Soos Creek ‘Ciel du Cheval Vineyard’ Red Wine is an awesome wine even at the three-year mark. Exotic spices, scorched earth, tobacco, and gobs of dark fruits greet you on the nose. The palate is fresh and polished with good tension and a light dusting of salinity that falls upon the core of dark fruits and espresso bean tones. Gorgeous to enjoy now, this has another fifteen years ahead of it. Drink 2021-2035."

2017 Soos Creek Artist Series ($30) - 65% Cabernet Franc and 35% Cabernt Sauvignon, sourced from the Ciel du Cheval, Dineen, Klipsun, Slide Mountain, and the Weinbau Vineyards. Steven Tanzer 91+ points, "Dark red. Aromas of cassis, blackberry, licorice, bitter chocolate and menthol. Supple, fine-grained and spicy on the palate, offering an attractive balance of sweetness and acidity and an overall impression of restraint. More savory and less sweet than the Soleil. Finishes with firm-edged tannins and lovely rising length. This has the spine for at least mid-term aging. (vinified with about 50% whole clusters and aged in 25% puncheons) (Drink between 2022-2028)"

2021 Soos Creek Syrah Commander Comet ($32) - Owen Bargreen, 93 points, "A new bottling from the Soos Creek collection, the 2021 Commander Comet comes from the Discovery Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA. Inky in the glass, this delivers tar, sagebrush and allspice dusted blackberry on the nose. The palate is soft and refined with a silky texture and great sense of flavor density with its black fruit and chocolate core. Delicious now, watch this develop over the next decade. Drink 2024-2034"
