Beaujolais and Zinfandel
Details
When I started drinking wine, my two favorites were Beaujolais and (Red) Zinfandels. Two extreme wines on opposite ends of the spectrum.
Join me for another night at UWS favorite, Nice Matin. I will be revisiting my past by pouring a refreshing white wine starter, a Beaujolais and 3 Zinfandels.
They are located on the corner of W. 79th and Amsterdam Ave.
Here is a link to their menu:

** The cost of this event is $38 and is for the cost of the wines.
NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It is annoying and confusing, but there is nothing I can do about it. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. MEETUP+ members are exempt from this charge.
Just a reminder of our usual rules:
You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). You will be expected to order at least 2 dishes (an appetizer and a main, or main and dessert) to help support the restaurant.
Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $6 service fee.
The Wines (notes will be distributed at the dinner):
2023 DeLille Cellars Chaleur Estate Blanc ($25) - WA 90, Vinous 93 and JD 94 points, "Blending 69% Sauvignon Blanc and 31% Semillon, the 2023 Chaleur Blanc is made in a rich, rounded style, with oak influence coming from its time in barrel, 42% new. The Semillon is from Klipsun Vineyard in Red Mountain and the Sauvignon Blanc from Sagemoor. Salty wet stone, dried apricot, and a hint of honey make it a compelling, medium-bodied white that shows a 25- to 30-year aging potential. (Drink between 2025-2055)"
2020 Bonnet-Cotton Brouilly Les Mines ($45) - I haven't had a bottle of this in 2 years! But here are my notes from then, "Very different from what I was expecting from a Beaujolais. It was bigger, fuller bodied with a longer finish. Still it was very fruit forward. Those in my group that liked it, loved it, but some didn't care for it." PS - I gave it 93 points. So I loved it!
2023 Two Vintners Zinfandel Stonetree Vineyard ($33) - Eric Guido 92, JD 90 points, "Juicy berry fruit highlights a layered, jammy core of soft, supple texture in the 2023 Zinfandel Stonetree Vineyard, blended with 39% Primitivo and 22% Petite Sirah. It’s a wild child of explosive fruit that has an easy-drinking nature and will appeal to fans of full-bodied, no wimpy, no hold-barred wines. Drink now. (Drink between 2025-2026)"
2021 Ridge Zinfandel Stone Ranch ($45) - 92% Zinfandel, 2% Carignane, 2% Petite Sirah. 15.2% alcohol. From the winemaker, "Ripe strawberry, black raspberry, cocoa, and black pepper aromas. Bright acidity with notes of pomegranate, plum, blackberry and sage give way to ample structure and fine tannins with a lengthy finish. SR (1/23)"
2020 Martinelli Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard ($105) - Vinous 92 points, "The 2020 Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard is packed with black cherry, game, tobacco and incense. Readers will find a brooding, potent Zinfandel. There is plenty of character, but a bit less in the way of finesse at this stage in what is shaping up to be a pretty brutish Zinfandel. (Drink between 2025-2035)"
