Châteauneuf-du-Pape

It is time for a Châteauneuf-du-Pape night at Bobby Van's. For this dinner we will have one white wine from the Northern Rhone, followed by 4 red wines, all from Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

We will return to perennial favorite, Bobby Van's on Park for a 7pm reservation.

Just a reminder of our usual rules:

** The cost of this event is $35 and is for the cost of the wines only.

NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. Sorry! Meetup+ members are exempt from this charge.

You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). Please order at least two courses (i.e. a main dish and either appetizer or dessert) for your dinner. There are very few restaurants that allow us to bring our own wine for a Zero corkage fee. We must be good guests to encourage the restaurant to continue to be generous to us.

Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $6 service fee.

The Wines :

2022 Les Vins de Vienne Condrieu La Chambée ($50) - CT 91.6, WS 94 points, "This fresh, compact white shows alluring floral notes of honeysuckle blossoms, with lemon shortbread, white tea and ample salty mineral adding complexity and drive. The finish stretches on and on. Drink now through 2028. 675 cases made, 500 cases imported."

2007 Domaine Grand Veneur Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Origines ($55) - CT 91.7, JD 95 points, "Still showing a youthful, primary profile, the 2007 Domaine Grand Veneur Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Origines (a blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, and 20% Syrah that’s aged partially in new barrels) is a thrilling Châteauneuf-du-Pape that delivers pure, clean aromas of crème de cassis, mineral, sweet tobacco, lavender, spring flowers, and graphite to go with a full-bodied, concentrated, and impeccably put together palate feel. Despite the modern elevage, it has soaked up all traces of its stint in oak and shows brilliantly pure fruit, a focused texture, and an overall classic, elegant southern Rhône character. Needing the better part of the evening to fully flesh out, this age-worthy ’07 should continue to improve over the coming 3-4 years, and drink well through 2027."

2009 Xavier Vignon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Anonyme ($50) - CT 91.2, WA 96 points, "There are approximately 10,000 bottles of the sensational 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Anonyme, which is fashioned from an unusual blend of 25% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 25% Syrah and the remaining 25% Counoise, Vaccarese and other authorized varietals. Its opaque purple color is followed by a wine of extraordinary intensity. Copious notes of licorice, garrigue, underbrush, blackberries, black currants and graphite are present in this full-bodied, modern-styled, fragrant, distinctive Chateauneuf. This terrific, voluptuous 2009 should drink well young and last for 15-20 years."

2015 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape ($45) - CT 91.7, JD 95 points, "I loved the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape from Claire Michel and it’s a classic blend of 75% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault, mostly from rolled stone terroirs, that was partially destemmed and brought up all in foudre. It’s a downright sexy, voluptuous 2015 offering textbook notes of kirsch liqueur, ground pepper, herbes de Provence, and incense. It picks up more dark fruit with time in the glass, is full-bodied, has plenty of fat and glycerin, and ample tannin, although they’re so polished you have to hunt for them. This gorgeous example of traditionally made Châteauneuf du Pape that’s going to drink beautifully for 15+ years."

2015 Domaine Durieu Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Lucile Avril ($35) - CT 91.2, JD 94 points, "the 2015 Châteauneuf Du Pape Lucile Avril reveals a ruby/plum hue as well as lots of peppery garrigue, sandalwood, beef broth, and ripe, darker berry fruits. With medium to full-bodied richness, it has building yet polished tannins, wonderful purity of fruit, and a great finish. It has the balance and elegance to drink nicely today yet is still in the early stages of its drink window, with another 10-12 years of prime drinking ahead of it. (Drink between 2021-2033)"
