Details
Join me for another night at UWS favorite, Nice Matin. For this one we will be drinking all French wines. 2 whites, neither of which come from Burgundy or Bordeaux, and 3 red Burgundy wines.
They are located on the corner of W. 79th and Amsterdam Ave.
Here is a link to their menu:

** The cost of this event is $39 and is for the cost of the wines.
NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It is annoying and confusing, but there is nothing I can do about it. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. MEETUP+ members are exempt from this charge.
Just a reminder of our usual rules:
You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). You will be expected to order at least 2 dishes (an appetizer and a main, or main and dessert) to help support the restaurant.
Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $6 service fee.
The Wines (notes will be distributed at the dinner):
2023 Domaine de Vaccelli Ajaccio Blanc ($45) - This a Vermentino from Corsica! This is Vaccelli's entry level Vermentino. I haven't had this vintage, but I've had previous ones and love it. This should be a great way to start the night!
2023 Domaine Ilarria Irouléguy Blanc ($35) - From Southwest France and the Pays Basque region of Irouleguy comes this Rhone like white. From the importer, "80% Petit Manseng, 20% Courbu (aka Hondaribbi Zuri) - This is what I tasted with Peio out of barrel, a never before seen dominance of 80% Petit Manseng due to the combination of early season frost (which strongly affected the earlier flowering Courbu), and a mid season hailstorm that took out more of the crop. The yields were a ridiculously low 13hl/ha, but what did finally make it into the winery is absolutely gorgeous."
2021 Domaine Glantenay Volnay Vieilles Vignes ($60) - Jasper Morris (89-91) points, ""From their usual four plots. Already the colour is noticeably fuller, a fine ruby red, and there is a greater concentration of fruit on the nose. Plumps up the middle of the palate too in a very cheerful red berry fruit, without losing its Volnay character. A tannin or two in a fairly crisp finish. Drink from 2026-2030. Tasted: October 2022."
2020 Domaine Michel Mallard & Fils Ladoix 1er Cru Les Joyeuses ($55) - "The 2020 Ladoix Les Joyeuses 1er Cru has an intriguing bouquet with red berry fruit, hickory, slightly savory in style (as Mallard himself remarked: a little Chambolle-like in style.) The palate is medium-bodied with a grainy texture on the entry yet the finish is very silky smooth and the 50% whole bunch feels completely assimilated. What a superb Ladoix Premier Cru." 92-94 Neil Martin
"An airy, cool and elegant array is composed mostly by the lightly spiced essence of red currant. I very much like both the texture and the underlying tension of the refined middle weight flavors that possess good detail on the lingering and balanced finish that is also youthfully austere. This too will need to add some depth with time. (89-91)/2027+" Allen Meadows
2022 Domaine Bouzerand Dujardin Monthélie 1er Cru Les Champs Fulliots ($55) - The importer went NUTS over this, here is his notes, "With this last wine, we have what I consider to be a hop-up-and-down, holy moly kind of discovery, a wine whose sense of class, complexity, and dimension is self evidently terrific, and what I already identify as the flag bearer for the estate in red. Its vines are approximately 40 years old. Immediately, from the first whiff, you can smell the full spectrum of aromatic interest, all things active limestone content, intense soaring dark red/light black fruits, whole cluster spice, and violet florals in a captivating and complete package. In the mouth, the same flavors are super precise/delineated, with a sense of explosive powerful intensity that is genuinely wow worthy. Its sense of tension of elements is plain terrific, the implosive/explosive limestone element taking this one to another level of complexity, very much in a style that I adore."
