** The cost of this event is $42 and is for the cost of the wines.

NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It is annoying and confusing, but there is nothing I can do about it. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. MEETUP+ members are exempt from this charge.

Just a reminder of our usual rules:

You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). You will be expected to order at least 2 dishes (an appetizer and a main, or main and dessert) to help support the restaurant.

Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $6 service fee.

The Wines (notes will be distributed at the dinner:
2022 Familia Nin-Ortiz Priorat Planetes de Nin - Blanc ($45) - CT 89.3, WA 93 points, "The 2022 Planetes de Nin Carinyena Blanca (Carignan White or Vi Blanc de Varietats Antigues) is slightly different, as the slopes planted with the variety just entered in production that year. The grapes ripened well, and 30% of the blend was macerated with skins for 30 days in a concrete egg. It has a nose of pollen and yellow fruit, hints of quince, the effect of the skin contact very subtle, some dry straw, a little more Mediterranean. It has only 12.8% alcohol and a pH of 3.2 with five grams of acidity. 6,120 bottles produced. (drink 2023-2028)"

2017 Marchesi Mazzei Castello di Fonterutoli Siepi Toscana IGT ($75) - CT 92.9, WS 92 points, "Black cherry, plum and tobacco flavors mark this rich, fleshy red, which is fruity up front, turning firmer and drier on the finish, where cherry, almond and tobacco notes echo. Fine overall balance and length, with a beam of fruit at the very end. Sangiovese and Merlot."

2010 Fattoria Galardi Terra di Lavoro ($75) - CT 93.1, WA 95 points,"The 2010 Roccamonfina Terra di Lavoro shows all the qualities of an excellent vintage. This is a pure and balanced wine that opens in a slow and seductive manner. The expressive bouquet shows layers of balsam herb, licorice, dark fruit, earth and crushed mineral. In fact, those volcanic Roccamonfina nuances are most distinctive in this beautiful vintage. The 2010 vintage also offers a generous quality of full and round fruit that sets it apart. This is a wine of great intensity, beauty and balance. It has many more years ahead to complete its evolution."

2017 Azelia Barolo Bricco Fiasco ($75) - CT 92, WA 94 points, "A product of 85-plus-year-old vines in Castiglione Falletto, the Azelia 2017 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is subdued and delicate, with linear fruit of wild plum and blackberry, plus hints of blue flower and pressed violet. The age of the vines and the depth of the root system in the loose soils of this site have helped to maintain balance and freshness during the hottest moments of this vintage. Indeed, this wine is more immediately silky in texture compared to Azelia's wines from Serralunga d'Alba (like the Barolo Margheria also reviewed in this report). This release of 5,600 bottles presents a nice opportunity to try your hand at a delicate rabbit ravioli for a very special occasion a few years from now. (drink 2024-2040)"

2015 MastroJanni Brunello di Montalcino ($50) - CT 92.2, WS 93, WA 94+ points, "The Mastrojanni 2015 Brunello di Montalcino has a succulent or meaty quality that adds to the overall intensity of the wine. You get rich fruit, baking spice and even a touch of rum cake. The wine is dark and velvety in appearance, and the mouthfeel is robust and concentrated. I love the full-bodied appeal and power of this wine. It has seamlessly captured the spirit of the vintage. Its approach is immediate, and you can enjoy this wine without waiting too much longer. The mouthfeel is lean, snappy and smooth. Fruit comes from a 14.4-hectare vineyard with south-facing exposures and clay soils with lots of broken rock shards. Some 58,000 bottles were released in January 2020. (drink 2021-2035)"
