We have now been to Monterey twice and I'm really enjoying it, plus they are one of the few corkage free Saturday night restaurants that I know of. They are from the same restaurant group as Nice Matin. So please join me for a Saturday night dinner at Monterey!

They are located at: 37 E. 50th and Madison Ave.

For this dinner we will have one white wine, followed by 4 red wines. Should be fun!
We will have a 7pm reservation.

Here is a link to their menu...

Just a reminder of our usual rules:

** The cost of this event is $66and is for the cost of the wines only.

NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. Sorry! Meetup+ members are exempt from this charge.

You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). Please order at least two courses (i.e. a main dish and either appetizer or dessert) for your dinner. There are very few restaurants that allow us to bring our own wine for a Zero corkage fee. We must be good guests to encourage the restaurant to continue to be generous to us.

Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $7 service fee.

Please use public transportation - NO DRINKING AND DRIVING!

The Wines :
2022 Tongue Dancer Chardonnay Pratt Vineyard, Irwin Lane ($50) - The Drunken Cyclist (no it's not me!) - 95 points, "This is on the verge of life-changing. Fairly light in color, more of a pale straw than yellow with a rather demure nose of lemon curd and oak. The palate, however, is far from reserved as this is a rich wine with lovely lemon meringue, a lively zinginess, and a finish that most wines can only fancy. I have had a ton of Tongue Dancer wines now, and they continue to impress, particularly the Chardonnays. Whoa."

2012 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five ($80) - CT 92.5, JD 97, WA 94 points, "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon One Pint Five is a big-time winner, a blend of almost all Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Malbec and Petit Verdot. The wine has an opaque bluish/purple color, almost indigo, and is full-bodied with dense chocolaty crème de cassis notes, licorice and a touch of minerality. The wine has well-integrated wood, is full and seems balanced and rich enough to age for two decades or more."

2016 Outpost Cabernet Sauvignon ($145) - CT 93.6, JD 96, WA 95 points, "Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged for 20 months in French oak, 80% new, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep garnet-purple color, slowly revealing profound blackcurrants, baked black cherries, plum preserves and licorice notions with hints of Chinese five spice, chargrilled meats and tilled earth plus a waft of yeast extract. Full-bodied, firm and grainy with amazing freshness and loads of emerging layers, it finishes very long and wonderfully layered. 1,198 cases were made."

2013 O'Shaughnessy Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain ($105) - WA 95 points, "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is O’Shaughnessy’s largest cuvée of wine, nearly 3,300 cases from her vineyard, with a final blend that is somewhat unusual - 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Malbec, 5% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Carménère, and a rather obscure one, 3% St. Macaire. Dense purple in color, with notes of mulberry, blackberry, graphite and spring flowers, the wine has great fruit, a dense, full-bodied mouthfeel, and wonderfully sweet, well-integrated tannin. The acidity is sound, the purity impressive, and the wine long and reassuring. Drink it over the next 20+ years. (drink 2013-2035)"

2014 JCB Cabernet Sauvignon Nº 10 ($85) - CT 93.3, WA 94 points, "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon JCB No. 10 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, mostly from the westside of St. Helena. This wine spent 19 months in 50% new French oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. There are only 210 cases of it, but it is a sensational effort. With an inky black color, notes of blackberry, blueberry, cassis, licorice, graphite and incense. It is full-bodied, layered and a big, juicy, succulent mouthful of Cabernet Sauvignon to drink now and over the next 20+ years.

The limited production wines under the JCB Collection moniker demonstrate the visionary as well as creative genius of Jean-Charles Boisset. They represent both his traditional upbringing in Burgundy and his passion and belief in the quality of Northern California fruit. All of these cuvées are relatively limited, running from a low of 200 cases to a high of just under 800 cases for the 2014 Proprietary Red Passion. (drink 2016-2036)"
